Something happened couple of weeks ago and i cant exactly decide what the direction of this piece would be; I learnt a lot lol. So maybe at the end we would all decide what I was actually trying to say in this particular piece.
So you guys know I ran the marathon, that’s how I now thought that I’ve arrived o, and I wanted to continue with the 4 times a week training.
Wait, should I start from how Garmin (a runner watch) set a program for me that sent me into healthy delusion, then actual delusion. Because how am I training for the marathon at a 7:30/KN pace and after the marathon, Garmin is now saying my base is 7:05. I used Garmin and I got a couple PR (Personal Record) of my 5KM and 10KM run, even my 15KM. It gave me a wicked high and I kept on pressing. Little did I know that I was gonna crash.
So, see me that had started running at 7:05 and even sometimes 6:20; I woke up one morning to do my normal run, but today I used my Apple Watch. I dey push myself and watch is saying im running at 8/KM. As how now?
First thing I did was remove the watch from my left wrist and put it on my right wrist, maybe the wrist is causing the inaccuracy. Na lie o, it was the same. That’s how I ended my run abruptly, and I ended up doing just 2KM.
Guess what that led to? A lot of bad things o. I started thinking feeling fat, cause that’s the only logic as to why I got slower. What happened next was I didn’t run for 2 weeks straight. Cos I’ve fallen off now. lol.
By now if you don’t know the moral of the story, na wa for you o. Sides the obvious ones, I think it’s important we set realistic standards for ourselves.
It’s crazy because people would put realistic expectations on you because they see somethings in you that you’re blind to, but sometimes the expectations are unrealistic o, no go let anybody whine you 😂.
Na tobi make me start to dey run fast o say make I do sub 1hour for 10KM which means I have to run at a max of 6mins/KM. For me wey manage do 1hr10mins.
So will I ever do sub 1hr 10K? Lol OF COURSE. But I’ll start with a sub 30mins 5K first, abi now? I believe it’s wise to train a couple of 5K at half an hour first. Breaking the long term goals into smaller pieces because an achievable goal, short term will help build a momentum needed for the loftier ones. Abi how you seee am?
I feel you bro! Felt this way when I resumed running this year. I’ve not ran for two weeks now cos of an injury and I’m scared I might be feeling fat too oo 😂
